Spectacular brisket --- as good as you can get in Austin (not easy for a native Texan to admit, y'all). All the food was spectacular, as was the unspoiled view of Lake Superior, the friendly service from Bjorn and owner Mike LaMotte, and the excellent list of libations. If I lived here I'd be a regular. As it is, I'll make it back as many times as I can before my visit is up!

A diamond in the rough. Fitz's was recommended to us by one of the staff at the Landmark Inn in Marquette and it was our choice for dinner two nights in a row. It's small and somewhat pricy but the food is excellent and the drink selection is amazing. The young staff seem a bit inexperienced and I'd guess somewhat overwhelmed by the popularity of the place. They were very friendly and attentive but a little unorganized.

If you enjoy: Smoked BBQ Whisky (Bourbon and Scotch) Have samplers on Menu Lake Superior Coast Microbrews from MI This place is a must stop. Be sure to make reservations as they pack the small bar/dining room. The service at bar was great . The Brisket sandwich was some of the best ever and I eat a lot of Q. Place is ran by 2 guys, less than 30, and they master what they want to know.

Having eaten at various places in the UP (Houghton, Marquette Iron Mountain), this was the best overall restaurant. I've been to brew pubs (The Library and Vierling) where the beer was good and the food was bad; or restaurants with a great food menu and limited beer options, but Fitzgerald's had the best everything. Not only was their beer list over 4 pages, but they serve lots of local brews (Brickside & Shorts) and the staff was extremely knowledgeable. Fitz doesn't hold back with the food menu either. The pork belly french toast screams "creativity" and proves they're not your typical restaurant in a hotel. The half pound burger with bacon and homemade peanut butter was delicious, but definitely overcooked. Wife got the pecan salad, but was missing the pecans because the kitchen ran out. Everyone else at the table got the BBQ and loved every last bite. Even though it's about an hour ride from our house up there, I'd make the drive every time I go to the UP.

We ate here two times in three days. The food is excellent and the beer/wine/whiskey options were awesome. We had the Poutine appetizer the first night and loved it. The burger was also excellent. Definitely a destination. The owners are very cool and helpful when suggesting cocktail options.

Several people told us to make sure we stop at Fitzgerald's while visiting the area. When we looked online we were suprised to see they recommend reservations. "Reservations recommended" is not really our preferred eating environment. We ended up there about 3 p.m. on a Saturday afternoon, and once we saw what a small place it is - reservations for a Friday or Saturday night certainly made sense. The restaurant sits directly on the beach providing a beautiful view of Lake Superior, with a patio for outdoor seating. It's filled with nautical decor and substantial wood tables and chairs. They have some unique items on their menu that may be impressive to "foodies". Prices were moderate - high, server was cordial. I'd give them a 3.5 if that were an option. Aside from the fact that they were the only option in that vicinity, we really didn't see what all the fuss was about. Jim & Colette roamingtogether.com facebook.com/followrt

Where to begin? Whether you're in your room or in the restaurant you have a SPECTACULAR view of Lake Superior. Our room was very clean and freshly updated. Oddly there was no clock in the room, but that's probably a testament to the laid-back atmosphere of the area. As far as the restaurant goes, it's fantastic. They have the largest and best beer list of any place in the U.P. - 5 pages! There was also a large selection of high-end spirits, but that's not really my thing. The food was great - we stuck to smoked food since they had their own smokehouse, and it was awesome. They said they use oak, so it's definitely "in your face". If you're anywhere near the Keweenaw you definitely need to stop at Fitzgerald's, if not spend the night at the inn!

A million dollar view of Lake Superior from anywhere in the restaurant or eat on the deck. Fitzgeralds is simple elegance, a quiet place to enjoy a great meal and spirits. I was very impressed that they served Paulaner Hefe Weissen...the tall bottle! It went marvelously with the Jaeger Schnitzel, a pork cutlet with a creamy mushroom sauce and spaetzels. The menu is small but the culinary muscle behind it is pretty strong, this is the UP..the middle of heaven and to find such a strong culinary destination was simply HEAVEN!

Wow. This place rocks. Food is awesome. It was a clean sweep, starting with the Black Bean Hummus which I highly recommend. Moving to the salad with homemade blueberry vinagrette and then to the pork tenderloin. The tenderloin was a little undercooked for my palette but I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt. The garlic mashed potatoes rocked and the corn bread muffin was outstanding. We washed everything down with a piece of raspberry pie that was awesome. If you are in the area, stop here to eat but call first and make reservations otherwise you have no shot.

A gem where ever it might be found. Proprietors that care and are knowledgeable. Food 4 star. Beer Scotch Cognac etc 5 star quality and selection. Did I mention Lake Superior, view, deck and occasional live music.

Excellent (almost overwhelming) craft beer selection. Pricing was a bit on the high side (brisket was $17 with no sides). I tried the brisket, which was good but not great; wife had the filet, with the same comment. They have their own large smoker on premises, but had run out of ribs and pulled pork at around 7pm. Scenery, though, is amazing. Huge bay windows looking out across Superior. Every table and bar stool was occupied by 7:30, so get their early or have reservations. In summary, if you're looking for great food, keep looking. But if you're looking for some fine beers and picturesque scenery, this is definitely the place.

What a great find! We just happened to stop in while exploring the area and we are so glad we did! The hardwood BBQ pulled pork and beef brisket was wonderful. Several, other great options too. We had the pie for desert and it was homemade delicious! Great views of the lake. Highly recommended.

Best place I've ever eaten at, loved the pulled pork. I can't wait to get back there, the view is the best! Love it here

A must eat place if you're in the Keweenaw. The ambiance is pretty great (directly looking at L. Superior from the dining room) as is the wonderful staff. The food is pretty excellent. The BBQ is incredibly well done, and the other menu items are great. Def recommend reservations. You'll be there a couple hours so if you like to speed through your meal and generally be 'Murican and not savor a nice dinner out, you might get annoyed. I didn't find that to be a bad thing at all between the drinks, the great staff, and the beautiful view.

Great view and delicious food. You need a reservation but if they are already full, place an order for take out, grab a beer from the bar, and enjoy your BBQ from the outdoor patio! Had the pulled pork, beans, and potato salad- all delicious!!!

We visit here about twice a month and is one of our top restaurants in the area. This last visit is etched in our mind making us reluctant to return. We were promptly seated and given the standard menu and beer list. However we sat for 15 minutes before even being acknowledged. We watched people that were sat after us receive food before we even ordered. The waitress, as we left because we were ignored, laughed about it. The food is good ( although would like to see more variety on the menu it never changes) the service leaves a ton to be desired.

The Fitz has made Eagle River Beach too crowded. And that is saying something in the UP where miles of beaches are empty. It has everything a terrific restaurant must have. Great food, amazing selection of beer, wine, and scotch, excellent service and a view to kill for. These guys know what they are doing. We make it at least there once a year if not more. This time, I ordered their chickpea curry with rice because I had a craving for Indian food cooked by someone other than me and it was outstanding. Reserve your table ahead of time and stay for sunset. Lake Superior offers incredible sunsets.

Where to begin... This is truly an amazing place. This is a destination, and it's worth the trip whether you're coming from Calumet or Chicago. The story of The Fitz is it was re-opened by two enterprising young men who decided they wanted to start a business that they themselves would want to go to. With blind ambition they opened a restaurant, and have tried to steadily grow and improve every year. And it's taken off, been accepted by locals and travelers, and has become a fixture in the Keweenaw. You need a reservation here, for sure. Perhaps I'll make a quick list of my favorite things about The Fitz. - It's right on the shore of Lake Superior. You can enjoy a nightcap on the deck while watching the sunset. - They make competition-level BBQ that you can't find outside of Texas or Carolina. - They have a beer and whisky menu that rivals any in the Midwest. - The staff, especially Mike and Marc, are incredibly knowledgable and passionate. My one criticism is this: they used to have a really great vegetarian sandwich on the menu (for those with a lighter appetite or trying to eat healthier) that was amazing. I think it was called the deer country or something. I wonder what happened to that great menu item. I know it was a big hit. I hope they bring it back.

Being local, we don't always take advantage of some of the great things in our own back yard as often as we should. The Fitz is one of those great things. A group of us went out here last night for the first time this season. The Fitz owners have really stepped up their game with quality food, quality service, and an unequaled beer selection (seriously, there is a beer option for even the person (me) who doesn't really care for beer - try the Blood Orange Gose!). It goes without saying the location is incredible as you dine looking over Lake Superior. For appetizers we shared the Risotto Fritters (very good) and the Rib Tips (the BBQ sauce is out of this world good - right amount of garlic, spice, and tang). For entrees, three of us had the Almond Crusted Walleye (cooked to delicate perfection), two had the prime rib special (which they devoured - make sure you get the horseradish, they said it was amazing), and one had the Brussels Sprouts & Bacon salad (a unique salad idea, and the person enjoyed it). We split the Carmel Chocolate Cheesecake (heavenly), the Peanut Butter Pie (not the favorite, but none went to waste), and The Bourbon Pecan Pie (new on the menu and a must try, wow - it was gone in 30 seconds). The staff is all fast and friendly even with pressures of a very full restaurant. Even with a table of 6, our server graciously allowed us to split the appetizers, and desserts across 3 checks - no mandatory large party gratuity, no mandatory large party single check, and no hassles. As others have mentioned, make reservations.

Wow. The Fitz is an absolutely amazing restaurant and the best way to cap off a day of Copper Country Cruising. If you want to eat on Lake Superior, you can't get any closer, as the waves are lapping on the shore closer to your table than the host stand. Check the sunset time and make a reservations BEFORE you leave Houghton/Hancock/Calumet, that wall you'll be guaranteed the best sunset you've ever seen over the greatest Lakes of them all. There was a MASSIVE beer and bourbon list that is brought to you on a clipboard. It would have taken me longer to figure out what I wanted to drink than it did for me to drive there from Houghton. Luckily, the waitstaff is very well versed in the menu and they can even help you with pairings. The menu was a little smaller than I would have liked, but that slight inconvenience was offset by the amazing food that they had on it. I didn't get the chance to try the ribs, but they looked absolutely amazing. I instead had NY Strip Steak which exceeded my already high expectations. You will not be disappointed by the food and it will be a highlight of your trip through the Keweenaw. I can't recommend going to The Fitz strongly enough. It is 100% worth the trip and the the expense. (Bonus Points for picking a name so heavily steeped in UP lore)

A group of 9 adults and 1 child including myself attempted to eat here at about 430. We figured ourselves lucky because it was pretty much empty and we would have a good seat. When approaching the hostess station were told any table over 8 HAS to have a reservation? Which seems a bit ridiculous. They seriously turned away a table to 10? Can they honestly say they're popular enough to do that? I personally have never eaten there before(along with a few others in our group) so I can't comment on the food, I do have family who works in the kitchen and I trust them, but I will not be returning.

The Fitz is a can't miss restaurant and bar if you're anywhere close. The beer selection is unbelievable for any beer snob and the BBQ is delicious and I haven't even mentioned the location! Literally on the lake 10-15 ft from the water and the sunset alone was worth the extra drive. The staff was great (That's an understatement. Thanks for everything Mike!) and I look forward to going back any chance I get!

I was in town last week with four coworkers every other place we went to in Houghton Hancock area was horrible. This place is well worth the drive from anywhere. We were sad that they had sold out (we are okay with this practice as we are food people and understand it's a great way to serve fresh food. Our reservation was at 8:30 as well so there is that) of brisket and ribs. I will be going back as I will be in Michigan the next two weeks. What we did have (pulled pork, skirt steak, pork chop, cole slaw, baked beans, and Mac and cheese) was wonderful with complex and well developed flavor. The server was fun and enjoyed her job. The drinks were slow to arrive. We also had some minor server issues but in general it did not matter as she was kind, genuine, and showed that she was happy we were there. Define toy check this place out. And as for the bitter reviews about reservations and not serving food on the deck they have no credit. If you don't like the way a business does business do not rank them bad on yelp. Obviously the kitchen can only handle so much and do it right.

I travel the Upper Peninsula extensively, and know how rare it is to have food of this quality AND excellent service. I can count the places that do both on one hand, and Fitzgerald's is definitely one of those few rare gems.I haven't had everything on their menu, but from experience I can recommend the pulled pork sandwich, burger, chicken wings, baked brie, stuffed whitefish (special), and BBQ ribs. They also have a crazy good beer selection (close to 100 or more different beers) and really know their beer.If you want a great (beachfront) meal in the Keweenaw, this is the place.
